Ben’s beetles.
Beetles
Beetle habitats;
Beetles can be found in almost all available habitats, including in water.
Terrestrial beetles are found:
In soil and under rocks, On or in flowers, leaves, fruits
and seeds, In leaf litter, Under tree bark, In rotting wood, On animal carcasses, In foodstuffs such as grains, In nests of other animals.
Aquatic beetles can be found in a range of watery habitats from temporary puddles to mountain streams, lakes and even brackish or muddy habitats. Some species may even be found where the tide comes in and goes out.
Reproduction; Beetles may display extremely intricate behavior when mating. Smell is thought to be important during reproduction.
Conflict can play a part during mating of species such as burying beetles (genus Nicrophorus) where conflicts between males and females rage until only one of each is left, so only the strongest and the fittest will be able to reproduce making the next generation of beetles much stronger and fitter.
Pairing is generally short but in some cases will last for several hours. During pairing sperm cells are transferred to the female to fertilize the egg
